Use a single Ethernet cable to transmit both power and data
The new PS14P from GarrettCom combines Power over Ethernet (PoE) with a compact, –48V DC heavy duty Ethernet switch, providing a convenient means of expanding network infrastructures without having to run separate power cables, and facilitating the deployment of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) telephone systems.
PoE is rapidly gaining in popularity for IT infrastructures, as well as driving something of a revolution in industrial communications, dramatically simplifying network setup. PoE allows devices to receive power, and transmit and receive data via a single, twisted pair, Ethernet connection. GarrettCom’s PS14P provides four RJ45 PoE ports that support standard auto-negotiation and auto-cross, in a small, heavy-duty switch ideally suited for use in even the most arduous of environments. The switch and the attached devices are powered from an integral –48V DC terminal block.
Typical applications include connection of VoIP phone systems, which are far easier and far less costly to deploy than conventional analogue telephone networks, as well as being simpler to maintain. In factory applications, the PS14P makes it easy to install IP wireless access points into factory LANs or to connect IP sensors and instruments. In surveillance applications, the new switch allows outdoor PoE cameras to be connected into a secure LAN. The PS14P also supports fibre Ethernet via the CS14H fibre link module.
Being premium-rated products, PS14P switches are suitable for use in harsh factory and temperature-uncontrolled outdoor applications. Built using premium-grade extended temperature components, they can be used in temperatures ranging from –40 to +75°C. The Magnum PS14P can be DIN-rail mounted or panel mounted as required.
