Telecoms equipment manufacturers face increasing pressure to fit more and more into tight rack spaces. GarrettCom’s new 6K32 managed Ethernet switch addresses this problem by housing 32-ports into only 1U of a 19” or ETSI or 23” Telco rack space.
The 6K32 switch offers 24 fixed copper ports with room for an optional module that allows for 20 port-type combinations including up to two Gb or eight 100Mb fibre ports, meaning larger communications systems can fit into existing floor space.
Further functionality includes Managed Network Software (MNS-6K) featuring software and hardware alarm relay contacts, standards compatible self-healing rings and meshes, QoS prioritisation, and a wide array of security features such as authentication and encryption.
The 6K32 is part of a broad family line of off-the-shelf switches and is available for almost every DC and AC voltage requirement, including the dual source -48V DC power input that is standard in most telecommunications’ facilities. The entire 6K series of managed switches are designed for heavy-duty applications and are NEBS and ETSI rated.

An innovative and unique design means the 6K32 allows telecommunications companies to combine copper connectivity for their banks of computers in communications cabinets with fibre’s inherent noise immunity and extended distance support for high-speed backbones.
All switches come with redundancy support including STP, RSTP, and GarrettCom’s S-Ring technology for high-speed fault detection and correction in an average of 0.25 seconds. Designed entirely around open technologies, S-Ring is virtually a risk free investment, as there is no lock in to proprietary products from a single vendor.
