6K Switches Chosen for City-Wide CCTV Surveillance Projects Throughout Turkey
One of the most important parts of any Mobese project is the networking equipment. Because the network switches were placed in field cabinets that are exposed to direct weather conditions with no special shelter or building for them, they needed to be hardened. Additionally, the switches needed to handle multicast traffic well. Live multicast video traffic would be coming into the switches from all corners of the city and required good management otherwise the traffic could flood the network in seconds.
The other requirement was network redundancy via redundant links with very rapid recovery.
With these requirements, very few vendors could even make the short list. Then field tests had to be performed with live video traffic. Because of the very high and continuous throughput requirement of the application, two of the switches from other vendors on the short list failed to transmit continuous live video traffic at the required frame rate and video quality. After the final tests, GarrettCom 6KQ switches were qualified and were recommended.

Danish State Rail Operator DSB Turns to GarrettCom for an In-Carriage Network Solution
DSB was looking for a way to integrate security, surveillance, passenger counting and infotainment technologies in an in-carriage IP-network solution.
DSB also wanted to ensure that the system installed complied with EN50155, including its prohibition on the use of fans. Also, as a precautionary measure EN50155 suggests using protective coatings for PCBs in electronic products to counteract corrosive atmospheres that are often present in railroad applications.
The networking system also needed to be powered from an auxiliary 110V DC system, which is present in each coach. DSB turned to GarrettCom and the 6KQ Managed Ethernet switches to provide the networking solution.

Motorways in the UK using GarrettCom products
In a bid to decrease congestion and increase safety on the UK’s roads the Highways Agency decided to try a new approach. In partnership with professional services group Mouchel Parkman, a strategic plan was developed to improve traffic flow within the UK’s existing infrastructure and road systems.Mouchel Parkman chose GarrettCom’s field hardened 6K16 managed switch and innovative redundancy manager S-Ring. GarrettCom’s 6K16 Switch is housed in a tough steel casing and is designed for temperature uncontrolled environments, and so is ideally suited to connect the locations on the roadside together.

GarrettCom PoE switches power UK roadside remote monitoring stations
A UK national transportation infrastructure project has been set-up to maintain over 4600 miles of core road network (motorways and A roads). The objective of the project is to develop travel information services that will improve utilization of the trunk road network through the provision of better information to road users.GarrettCom’s Hardened mP62 switches in field cabinets and 6K16 managed switches are deployed along the Pinners Point roadway and in the Midtown Tunnel to relay information to the VDOT Traffic Control Centre (TCC). The traffic controller consults video cameras spaced along the roadways to pinpoint the incident site. GarrettCom’s S-Ring™ Redundancy Management Software facilitates rapid self-healing should a break in the Ethernet LAN communications ring occur.

GE Harris uses fibre switches and mixed-media hubs in Oman substation
The Oman Ministry of Electricity and Water wanted to reduce substation operating costs, while maximizing the use of existing assets. Other goals for the program were to improve substation electrical system performance, reliability, and security. GE Harris Energy Control Systems, LLC, Melbourne, Fla., was asked to create a fully redundant system that included prefabricated control buildings and outdoor cabinets that would be easily connected to existing substation apparatus.
GE Harris learned of the GarrettCom line of Industrial Ethernet products from Dynavar Networking, Inc., Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dynavar, a high-tech provisioner of a wide variety of internetworking products in North America and around the world, recommended GarrettCom’s broad off-the-shelf line of flexible, highly reliable, DC-powered, extended-temperature Ethernet switches and hubs.

6K switches upgrade increases performance at Irish Distillers' Midleton plant
“We had used a fibre-optic star topology to network the various SCADA PCs in the different production area control centres, but although it was state of the art when it went in, the network was quickly becoming a limiting factor,” says Michael Tracey, Engineering Manager at the Midleton distillery. “Even at 100Mbps we were finding the fibre connections too slow, while the star topology and the use of unmanaged switches meant that it was difficult to expand the system and diagnose faults.”
Looking for a new solution that would prove faster, simpler to manage and more tolerant of faults to ensure high availability of the network, Michael Tracey turned to GarrettCom Europe and found the answer in its high speed, industrially hardened managed Ethernet switches. Designed to meet modern requirements of high performance and increased configuration flexibility, the 6K Managed Switch family (including the 6K32T chosen at Midleton) combines Gigabit fibre ports with choices of both 100Mb and 10Mb fibre or copper ports, all of which can be mixed and matched within any given switch to best meet the needs of the application. The managed switches are supplied with Garrettcom’s MNS software, which provides a complete range of management services.

Arizona’s Salt river project uses 6K25 fibre switches in substations
To meet the growing power needs of metropolitan Phoenix, SRP is adding generating facilities and transmission lines that will protect SRP customers from market fluctuations and power shortages. SRP is also upgrading its nearly 200 existing substations to feature Ethernet in the control system over a three-year rollout period.
SRP engineers chose GarrettCom’s 6K25 Fibre Switches for the Ethernet LAN in the new Rudd substation. The GarrettCom product line offers high configuration flexibility, and high reliability as shown by the NEBS certifications which is appreciated by the telecommunications background of many of the SRP engineers. NEBS testing fulfils the criteria deemed necessary by the telecommunications industry to support mission-critical central office applications that demand high reliability, electromagnetic radiation immunity, and sustained operation under temperature stress among other tough conditions.

Transparent LAN services - LAN and MAN solutions for Hickory Tech
Hickory Tech Corporation, based in Mankato, MN, is a leading provider of an array of communications services to businesses and consumers in parts of Minnesota and Iowa. Hickory Tech has been installing fibre cabling for new high-bandwidth services to customer premises, and has an extensive infrastructure of single-mode “dark” fibre to handle projected growth.Hickory Tech is providing Ethernet connectivity for a school district in Mankato, MN. This MAN has fibre cables running from the central ATM switch to each of the 16 schools within a two-mile radius. This cost-efficient network is based on GarrettCom’s line of Ethernet connectivity products. A TLS was implemented by simply choosing the Ethernet system elements from the GarrettCom ine of 100Mb single-mode fibre products that suit a customer’s MAN and LAN requirements.
